J.Crew in the fall is torture. Pure torture. I’m legitimately thisclose to purchasing lottery tickets so I can invest in every piece of the fall collection with my earnings. That, and pay off a student loan or two.

here’s to autumn hues making me weak in the knees,

missoni madness.

(a bit of the collection)

Today I learned the power of Target. Well, Target combined with Missoni. At first I thought I was a little crazy for waking up extra early this morning so I could snag a few items from the Missoni for Target collection that debuted today. But now that the Target site temporarily crashed from the overwhelming amount of users? I want to pat myself on the back for making such a wise choice.

It’s amazing what a chevron pattern and Italian designers can make women do.

here’s to being the early bird,

love a good romper.

I jumped on the romper train pretty late, picking up my first little one piece this June*.  For some reason, I thought the combo of a connected top and bottom would leave me feeling like an adult baby…like in a diaper. I really hope someone can relate, otherwise pretend I never said that.

Turns out, I kind of love rompers. Like, really love. Especially this one pretty one from Whitney Deal.

(preshy sandals, too)

here’s to ruffled hems,

*Scared to take the romper plunge? I have one from here and am obsessed.

oh wise one.

If you need one more reason to love J.Crew, read this NY Times article about the company’s Creative Director and President, Jenna Lyons. She can turn a chambray shirt, glitter heels, thick-rimmed glasses and a trash bag into chic inspiration. But how does she do it? Teach me your ways.

here’s to wanting every item from crewcuts,

the wonder dress.

(similar to this gal)

After mindless venting over a glass of wine, my friend persuaded me into some retail therapy. While in the dressing room the sales associate presented me with a dress that had been hiding in the back of the store and was marked down from $158 to $29.99. SHUT UP. Hand over the dress.

It fit like a glove. The sales associate stared at me, grinning ear to ear, then looked at me in the eyes: “now twirl.” I was in love.

When I checked out I discovered that the dress was actually $9.99. Yes, I saved $148 on a made-for-me dress that I never would have found if it weren’t for some serious customer service (thanks anthro!).

here’s to dress fairies,

orange you glad.

I’ve been trying to cut back on senseless shopping, and I can proudly say I have been making an honorable effort. That is, until an orange skirt with a gold zipper stood in my way. Gold zipper, people. Since 95% of the clothes I wear are for work, I know this skirt will definitely get some mileage and prove to be well worth the money.

(doesn’t do the beauty justice)

here’s to being lured in by mannequins,

getting laced.

(and she comes in orange)

Over the Memorial Day weekend I made sure to take advantage of the three-day vacation and gorgeous weather in DC. Apparently my skin wasn’t used to being outside 90% of the time, and I have the burns and awkward tan lines to prove it.

Lace is my savior today. The light & airy material is exactly what my body needs while cooped in a cubicle.

PS – since I didn’t have a Memorial Day post I would like to take a moment and thank all of our troops, past and present.

here’s to stronger SPF,
